Formwork is most of the job
What decides a foundation is the setting out and the bracing - forms square, level, to the right dimension and braced hard enough that they do not move when concrete goes in. A wall that moves during the pour is a wall that gets fixed afterwards at considerable cost, which is why the forming takes longer than the pour.
Retaining walls hold back more than soil
A retaining wall on a sloped lot is holding back saturated ground after Upstate rain, and water behind a wall with nowhere to go is what pushes walls over. Drainage behind the wall is part of the wall, not an extra.
Inspections and sequence
Footing work sits inside someone else's schedule - the building has to be able to follow it. These pours are planned so the next trade can start when it needs to.
