What you are looking at

Most of these are full tear-outs and replacements rather than patches. The old slab comes out, the base underneath is re-prepared, forms are set and braced to the finished grade, reinforcement goes in, and the new slab is poured, finished and jointed in one working sequence.

Why the base decides the driveway

Most of the Upstate sits on Piedmont red clay, which shrinks when dry and swells when wet. A driveway is wide, thin and carries concentrated wheel loads, so it shows that movement before anything else on the property does. The compaction under the slab, the thickness of the pour and where the control joints are cut are what separate a driveway that stays flat from one that maps out in cracks - and all three are decided before any concrete arrives.

Edges, aprons and where water goes

Look at the edges in these photos. A bordered or thickened edge carries the load where a tyre actually crosses it, and the slope across the slab is set to move water away from the house and the garage rather than toward them. Where a driveway meets the county road, what is allowed in the right-of-way is set by the county, not by us, and we work to whatever that county requires.

Finishes

Nearly all of these carry a broom finish - a textured surface drawn across the fresh slab that stays grippy when wet and hides dirt. Where an owner wanted something more, you will see bordered bands, exposed aggregate, or a stamped apron set against a broom-finished field.
